Winning the Campaign

Matthew 19:26 “But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”

Ephesians 3:20-21 “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”

Hebrews 12:1-2 “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured he cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Ecclesiastes 3:1 “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven”

In early October, I announced my candidacy for U.S. Senate, and included some of my thoughts in the following post:

Yesterday, I announced that I was ending my candidacy, and wanted to provide a few thoughts here about the Lord’s leading throughout this journey. This is a sliver of the whole story of God’s magnificence in this endeavor, but I wanted to capture and share these nuggets while they were still fresh in my mind and tender in my heart.

God called me to run this race. In spite of the long odds, I firmly believed that it was possible to win the election. I’m not stopping because I gave up that hope. After all, with Him all things are possible. I ended this portion of the race because I know that the Lord would have me to stop. It was a decision bathed in prayer and informed by wise counsel. As I told people constantly during this journey – we are responsible for the faithfulness, and God is responsible for the results. It is up to us to follow His direction, wherever that leads us, and it is His business to use it in whatever way He sees fit. I did my best to do my part, supported by an amazing team, and I fully trust Him to use it for His purposes that I may never know this side of heaven.

I embraced Hebrews 12:1-2 throughout this journey, with an emphasis on running the race while looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of my faith. We committed to running in the right way, regardless of the outcome. I described it as winning the campaign, something completely in my control. Winning the campaign meant that we would do it with honor and with integrity, while raising the level of the dialogue and inspiring, encouraging, and informing people along the way. We did our best to do so from beginning to end, and I firmly believe that we won the campaign for God’s glory.

It was an amazing journey and a season of my life that provided priceless opportunities to serve our great nation and our matchless Lord. This was not my season to become a United States Senator. But, I expect many more seasons left in my life; all of them are appropriate for faithfulness that is left up to me and results that are left up to God.

PLEASE PRAY FOR AMERICAN CHRISTIANS TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH FAITHFULNESS IN ALL THE SEASONS OF OUR LIVES. In our own contexts, may we run our races well and win the campaigns that God has assigned us.

Hall of Famers

Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Hebrews 11:32-34 “And what shall I more say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.”

Luke 1:37 “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”

Matthew 19:26 “But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”

Hebrews 11 is often known as the Hall of Fame of Faith. We see the refrain repeated frequently – “by faith” – followed by a great act that was accomplished by one of God’s choice servants by faith and through faith. Impossible results were unlocked with God and for God. Yet, importantly, the list does not stop at v31 with Rahab. Instead, God’s Word goes on to remind us that the power of faithful service was carried out in the lives of the faithful through acts that would be too lengthy to describe.

We are to be an extension of that list. We are to follow in their footsteps. We are to carry on the legacy of the Hall of Fame of Faith!

In heaven, when time will not limit the telling of the entirety of that list, our stories of faithful impact are to be told alongside of those of Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sara, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses and his parents, Joshua, Israel, and Rahab.

But the impossible only happens by faith!

PLEASE PRAY FOR AMERICAN CHRISTIANS, BY FAITH, TO DO THE IMPOSSIBLE IN A WAY THAT IS FITTING OF THE STORIES OF HEROIC AND MIRACULOUS IMPACT OF HEBREWS 11. May our faith make our legacies worthy of the Hall of Fame of Faith.

Doing the Impossible

Luke 1:37 “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”

Matthew 19:26 “But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”

Ephesians 3:20 “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.”

There are plenty of things that we see as impossible in our lives today:

  • Overcoming physical health challenges
  • Overcoming mental health challenges
  • Overcoming relationship challenges
  • Overcoming employment challenges
  • Overcoming educational challenges
  • Overcoming financial challenges
  • Overcoming doubt, despair, division, fear, confusion, and hopelessness
  • Seeing a true pathway for hope, reconciliation, unity, and inspiration

There are plenty of things that we see as impossible in our world today:

  • Experiencing local and national revival
  • Successfully spreading the gospel to a lost and dying world
  • Overcoming governmental dysfunction
  • Defeating the forces of evil on the world stage
  • Experiencing good schools, safe neighborhoods, and affordable lifestyles
  • Maintaining our God-given liberties

We rightfully recognize that we will struggle to achieve any of these important elements of safety, security, peace, and prosperity … on our own. There are plenty of things that are impossible for us, but nothing that is impossible for God. With Him and for Him, we can see the impossible, plan for the impossible, and do the impossible.

He can do every thing; He can do all things. He can enact the impossible without breaking a sweat or batting an eye. He has done so throughout human history and without the constraints of time, space, imagination, or limitation.

PLEASE PRAY THAT AMERICAN CHRISTIANS WOULD BE UP FOR DOING THE IMPOSSIBLE ONCE AGAIN WITH GOD AND FOR GOD.

The Highest Aspirations

II Timothy 3:16-17 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”

Job 23:12 “Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.”

As a powerful reminder of the moral clarity in times past, I came across the following prologue to a Bible that was ultimately presented to millions of American military members during World War II.  Several months before America was pulled into the war, on January 25, 1941, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt wrote the following:

“To the Armed Forces:

As Commander-in-Chief, I take pleasure in commending the reading of the Bible to all who serve in the armed forces of the United States. Throughout the centuries men of many faiths and diverse origins have found in the Sacred Book words of wisdom, counsel, and inspiration. It is a fountain of strength and now, as always, an aid in attaining the highest aspirations of the human soul.

Very sincerely yours,

Franklin D. Roosevelt.”

How true! God’s Word provides wisdom, counsel, and inspiration. It is a fountain of strength. It provides an indispensable aid in attaining the highest aspirations of the human soul.

It was true in 1941 and it remains vitally true today.

PLEASE PRAY FOR AMERICAN CHRISTIANS TO RETURN BACK TO ACKNOWLEDGING THE INDISPENSABILITY OF THE WORD OF GOD. As we aspire towards various things today, may we never forget the guide that directs us to the highest aspirations of the human soul.

All Things

Luke 1:37 “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”

Matthew 19:26 “But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”

Matthew 17:18-21 “And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.”

Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”

One year from today is Presidential Inauguration Day. Regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum, you are rightfully concerned. Pessimism is at an all-time high and trust in our fundamental institutions is at an all-time low. Our citizens are having severe problems even envisioning the once-ubiquitous promise of the American Dream. We struggle to imagine a brighter future and we labor to conceptualize a nationwide revival.

Yet, a never-changing God is still on the throne. Throughout history He has seen His people ready to throw in the towel and give up hope. Yet, when things are gloomiest He seeks those whose faith can transcend their circumstances. That is what He is looking for from us today.

With God, nothing is impossible. As a result, through and with Him, all things are possible. The Lord is looking for a critical mass of pure faith to move the mountains that are standing in the way of our temporal and eternal success. That is what we need in 2024!

PLEASE PRAY FOR AMERICAN CHRISTIANS, THROUGH FAITH AND WITH GOD, TO BELIEVE THAT REVIVAL IS POSSIBLE IN 2024. We are so lacking in today’s society, and desperately need the One who can do all things!
