Acts 11:26 “And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.”
God addresses the contingent promises of II Chronicles 7:14 to those who are called by His name. Indeed, as Christians, we literally are. That simple moniker contains the name of our Saviour. Our very affiliation and allegiance is revealed by the name of our movement. The One in whom we trust completely is the core of our demographic label.
The origin of the term may have stemmed from the mocking unbelievers of Antioch. It was subsequently accepted as a term of pride by those who clung to Christ. We should do the same.
In fact, it is fortunate that we are called Christians. In a land that has tried to rid itself of the mere mention of the name of Christ, our label has escaped the cultural purge. In doing so, this title remains as a testimony to our Lord; our individual testimonies must live up to His importance in our lives. We must wear this title ever mindful of the importance of our identification with Him.
PLEASE PRAY THAT AMERICAN CHRISTIANS WOULD WEAR OUR TITLE EVER MINDFUL OF THE ONE WE REPRESENT. We shouldn’t just be called Christians. We should live as Christians, carrying Christ’s name with us as He is intricately woven into the fabric of our lives.
